President's 2009 Message to the Members

2009 has arrived and the Board f Directors of LAEA is busy planning the Education for the year. Our industry has seen some tough times, over the last couple of years, company’s are continuing to downsize and layoff Escrow Professionals. Most of us that have been in the industry for more than 7 years, have been through these lows, coupled with the increasing amount of foreclosures and Major Lending institutions being taken over and Mortgage Company’s that have closed and no longer exist. We have to hold steady knowing that with the lows, times will be better. The Country has a new President and his goal seems to be to get the economy turned around and going strong again.

Los Angeles Escrow Association’s goal is to have Educational Workshops in 2009 and to keep the cost as low as possible for our Members, to bring timely and up to date information on topics happening in the industry specific to the types of transactions i.e. Residential, Commercial and REO Transactions With the passage of SB133 we do not have the flexibility we once had in where we can hold workshops. We will strive to continue to do so and keep the costs as low as we can for the Members while continuing to bring the quality of Education our Members have continued to expect.

In conclusion, I think that Past President advisor Lorraine Walker said it best in her letter to the Membership in 2008. Let’s take time to re-group, advance our education and goals and broaden our horizons and move past our comfort zones. Membership is key and the foundation of the Escrow Association and it starts at the regional level and blossoms from there. Get involved, sit on a committee help with the plans for the year. We have already planned the majority of the Dinner Meeting Speakers and Topics for 2009 and hope that you will like what we have in store for the membership.
